Went AK shopping locally

First store had wasr's for $700 and a yugo for $999.

Second store had tantels for $889.

Third store had Arsenal aks in 223 for $720. I ended up coming home with the SLR-106FR model. Its my first ak and it feels damn solid. Can't wait to go shoot it.... maybe tomorrow.

I thought I paid to much for my Yugo this fall when I paid $527 including tax for it. So crazy how the price has changed on those.

I got my last WASR 10 about 18 months ago used from someone off SKS boards. Got the rifle, 2 30 round mags, an extra stock, extra pistol grip, and extra gas tube all for $300.00 shipped.

This is going to make you guys mad. I got mine from a friend who owed me $125 for paying for a rotorooter service on his sewer drain. He owed me the money for a year and just found he didn't need the AK. I tried to offer cash as well but he felt that being ale to use his toilet over last winter was worth it. I'm an AR guy so it feels like a piece of junk in my hands (but it shoots nicely) but a guy at the last local gunshow offered me $600.

Of course I got rid of it...

I sold a NIB Norinco MAK 90 today for $750.

Might have gotten more but it went to a family member.

For the first time EVER, I don't have any firearms I'm willing to part with.

Though I am STILL LOOKING for a Winchester Model 94, Trapper model with a 16" barrel in .38/.357 for my wife.

I missed one by 'this much' about two weeks ago.

This is it folks. You either have it or you do not. And if you do not, you may NEVER be able to get it again.

I hope I'm wrong, but with all that I've seen, I sincerely doubt it.

I remember in 1996.....I bought a total of 10 Norinco Mak 90 for $199 each.....cost me $2000 at the time.......today you could buy 2 and have enough left over for some mags.

I sold them all for $500 each within 2 years.

That was when you could buy cases of ammo for $90.

We just picked up 4 Glock 17 tonight (300 miles round trip...but we got 'em)and 2 Ruger 10/22.....have 2 more 10/22 to get in the morning.

Better get your stuff right now!

You did good. I have the same model except in 7.62 x 39. Good crisp trigger, and well built. -Mine is pretty accurate as well. Better than a Yugo IMHO.

Dudes, I found a pic online! I knew it was one of 7000 imported in '86 of this type, 7000 full stocks for 14k over all.I could be wrong on that, it may have been 7000 overall. At that time Hungary was on the restricted munitions list.
Does anybody else out there have one?

Yep, and that junky AK will continue shooting even after being stepped on in the mud.

Hey, if you like AR's - tryout a DSA FAL in .308.....more punch with all the precision of an AR and maybe more.

There's a lot better examples outside AR's........I'm just sayin.

I went to the Gun Show in Pasadena TX today and it was PACKED!

I had to move some silver to fund an auto repair, so I was unable to buy....but it was good to see such a large gathering of free Americans!

My FFL offered me a CETME about a year ago for $400, he said he is getting more in the end of this month and they should be around $600. That's a 50% bump in a year, insane!

There's another gun show here in a couple weeks, gonna go cause the wife wants to do the CCW class so we'll see how it goes.

Wow AD.. Nice deal. Wish I had the cash to buy all of them they have and the tools to convert them to the high cap magwell.

Re: Went AK shopping locally

Once an AK is into the realms of AR and FAL pricing, why bother buying one?

I have owned several AK's, a Maadi (7.62), SAR-2(5.45), SAR-3(5.56), Hi cap WASR-10 and to be honest none were worth over $400.

I see SAR-3's going for insane prices and yet the rifle had several issues- trigger slap, canted sights, and magazines could be a problem.

The WASR-10 was to be honest not very nice at all...wobbly magazine, tight with certain mags, etc.

I DID like the SAR-2.

Anyway,I no longer own any AK rifle although I DO have a little ammo and mags left over:wink: but why not buy a FAL or an AR for that price?

I have seen a FAL rifle for sale online in SC for $750....I see ARs close to the prices being shown.

In the end the AK isn't really that great a rifle for the sort of money it is selling for in my opinion...

gangsta99 01-13-2009 09:30 AM

Re: Went AK shopping locally

Oz I agree about buying something else for these crazy prices. The problem is those ARs and FALs seemed to have gone up in price also so now you are still looking at spending more to get one over an AK. I am happy I at least got most of my shopping done this summer thanks to GIM.

Also I just got done looking over what is needed to convert those WASRs to hi cap and it looks pretty simple. Seems that by converting this yourself you can also take care of any mag wobble issues if you take your time and dont take too much metal off.

I really wish I had my tax return already, if I did I would buy a dozen of these and convert them myself and get rid of a few here and there for other guns or ammo.

Re: Went AK shopping locally

Well that is true...actually what I am seeing online at least is there aren't a LOT of FALS being offered for sale.

I lucked into buying my replacement prior to the election of Uncle 'Bama and got it for a good deal...

However I am thinking of offering it in trade for a different model FAL...we will see.

AR's I am still not much into, although all the horror stories seem to be untrue at least in my limited experience...

Ohh, and I try NEVER to buy from a dealer anyway, private sales are the way to go.:applause_

I got my YUGO underfolder in the $600 range but anything above that I'm ignoring. Overpriced WASR's aren't even on my radar. I do like the RPK's with the heavy duty barrels though..........and I think they're worth the money even at $700+

Right now a FAL is probably the BEST deal going if you can find one under $1k.

DSA has always been too high...

And it was possible to find much lower priced FAL's....maybe not now however.

Although I bought a HB izzy on an Imbel for under $1000 about four months back.

Willing to trade it stright up for a Para FAL....
